Can someone explain the iOS anti-steering ruling in simple terms?

I’ve noticed a lot of talk about the iOS anti-steering ruling lately.

It’s really confusing with all the legal language.

Is this going to impact app developers significantly, or is it just the status quo? I need to know if we should adjust our payment flow.

Most users stick with App Store payments anyway.

Apple can’t stop apps from letting users know about cheaper payment options outside the App Store. But it’s not as huge as it might seem.

The deal is you still can’t have direct links or buttons for external payments. You can only hint that other options are there. So users need to go find your site themselves.

I’ve got a subscription app, and after the ruling, only about 2-3% of users actually leave the app to pay elsewhere. Most just want the fast checkout.

For your payment flow, I suggest adding a little text mention but keeping your main in-app purchase flow the same. The hassle of external payments is still too much for most users.
