Been exploring various product analytics tools recently.
Mixpanel offers robust event tracking while Amplitude provides a more intuitive cohort analysis.
I’ve seen solid insights from both.
Curious if others have uncovered unique strategies for understanding user behavior.
Skip fancy tools. Watch users use your app. Learn way more that way.
I’ve used Amplitude, Mixpanel, and a few others. Here’s what I learned:
Amplitude’s funnel analysis is great for spotting where users drop off. We found a huge leak in our onboarding flow that way.
Mixpanel’s retention curves helped us see which features kept people coming back. Turned out our ‘progress tracker’ was way more sticky than we thought.
But the real game-changer? Combining tool data with in-app surveys. We’d see a drop-off in the data, then ask users why right in the app. Got way more actionable insights that way.
Just remember - no tool will give you all the answers. They’re starting points. You still need to dig deeper and test changes to really improve behavior.
We use Google Analytics. It’s basic but gets the job done. Tells us what we need to know about users without too much fuss.
Forget the fancy tools. Focus on core metrics that drive revenue. DAU/MAU, retention, and conversion rates tell you what matters. Pick a basic tool that tracks those. Spend time fixing problems, not analyzing data. I’ve seen teams waste months on complex analytics setups. Meanwhile, their core metrics tanked. Keep it simple. Act on clear data trends. That’s how you actually improve user behavior and grow.
I’ve found Heap pretty useful. It auto-tracks everything without extra code.
Makes it easy to spot user behavior patterns we didn’t expect. Like how people were using a feature in a totally different way than we designed it for.
Just be careful not to get lost in all that data. Focus on key metrics that actually impact your bottom line.
