Been wrestling with this for weeks now. Users seem hesitant when we redirect them to our payment processor.
Tried adding security badges and explanation text but conversion is still shaky. What’s actually working for you guys when users have to leave your app to pay?
Two things fixed this exact problem for me.
First - match your checkout styling perfectly. I had our designer copy the colors, fonts, and buttons so users barely noticed the redirect.
Second - add a quick “Redirecting to secure checkout…” message instead of instantly bouncing them. Gives people a second to understand what’s happening.
I also tried showing recent numbers like “Join 1,247 users who upgraded this week” right before redirecting. Social proof worked way better than security badges in my tests.
Show a payment page before redirecting users. Don’t just bounce them out without any explanation. Add a confirmation screen that tells them where they’re going, what they’ll pay, and that they’ll come back to your app afterward. Throw in your payment processor’s logo so it matches what they see next. That jarring disconnect kills user trust. Make the external step feel like it’s part of your flow instead of some random redirect.
Send users an email receipt right after they pay.
