Curious about what other iOS devs are doing for payments outside the App Store.
Been looking into options like Stripe, PayPal, and even crypto.
Wondering if anyone’s found a smooth solution that doesn’t anger Apple but still gives us more control and better margins.
Tested a few options last year. Stripe worked well for us, especially their Apple Pay integration. Smooth UX and decent fees.
We use it for digital content purchases outside the app. Users buy on our website, then unlock in-app. It’s a bit clunky, but it keeps Apple happy and saves us on fees.
PayPal was okay, but had more friction for users. Didn’t try crypto - seemed too niche for our audience.
Big thing is making sure your ‘unlock’ process in-app is bulletproof. We had some syncing issues at first that caused support headaches.
Remember, anything that looks like you’re dodging App Store fees can get you in trouble. We’re clear that our website purchases are for ‘web content’ that happens to have an app component.
Tried Paddle. Works okay. Bit clunky but saves cash. Keep it totally separate from the app though.
We use Stripe for web purchases. Users buy credits there, use them in-app. No mention of it in iOS. Keeps things clean with Apple. Bit of extra work, but worth it.
App Store bypass is risky. Focus on maximizing revenue within Apple’s rules instead.
Optimize your pricing tiers and IAP offerings. Test different price points and bundles. Improve your conversion funnel and retention to boost lifetime value.
For content, use a ‘reader’ app model. Users subscribe on web, access in-app. Just don’t mention it in the app.
If you must use alternative payments, tread carefully. Make it 100% separate from the iOS app. No links, no hints. Treat them as totally different products.
Remember, 70% of something beats 100% of nothing if Apple boots you. Work the system smartly.
