Is monthly still the best default for subscriptions?

Been wondering about subscription cadence lately. Seems like everyone defaults to monthly, but I’m not sure if that’s still optimal.

Considering testing bi-monthly or quarterly options. Curious what others have seen work well for retention and LTV.

Monthly’s common, but not always ideal. I’ve had success offering both monthly and quarterly.

Quarterly can increase retention and average revenue per user. But monthly is good for initial conversions.

Test different options with your specific audience and see what performs best.

Monthly isn’t always best. I’ve seen quarterly options boost LTV by 15-20% in some cases. The key is positioning it right.

Frame it as a commitment package with a small discount. It appeals to serious users and can reduce churn.

That said, keep monthly as an option. It’s easier for new users to swallow and helps with initial conversions.

Test different cadences with your audience. Look at conversion rates, retention, and overall LTV. The numbers will tell you what works best for your specific app.

Monthly’s popular, but not always best. Try A/B testing different options. Quarterly might boost LTV for some apps.

Tested this on a meditation app last year. Monthly was our default, but we saw a 22% bump in LTV when we introduced a quarterly option.

The key was positioning. We framed it as a ‘Commit to Calm’ package with a small discount. It appealed to users who were serious about building a habit.

Monthly still converted better for new users. But for those who stuck around 2+ months, the quarterly offer was a winner.

One surprise: churn actually dropped a bit with quarterly. Seems like the longer commitment window gave people more time to see results.

Don’t sleep on annual either. It’s a harder sell, but the upfront cash and retention boost can be worth it for some apps.

Monthly works but not always. Test quarterly too. Users might stick around longer.
