Is your product analytics revealing true user intent or just clicks and views? How do you go deeper?

Been looking at our analytics dashboard and realizing we’re tracking a ton of surface-level metrics.

Clicks, page views, session duration - but I’m not sure we’re actually understanding why users behave the way they do.

What methods have worked for you to dig into actual user intent?

We switched from tracking usage to feature drop-off rates. Way better at showing where people actually bail out.

Track decision moments, not just clicks. Watch for signup abandons, skipped onboarding, or users backing out. Hit them with exit surveys right at those friction points. Ask one thing: what made you stop? Regular analytics show what happened - but pairing behavior data with quick surveys tells you why.

Talk to users directly. That helps a lot.

Avoid focusing on vanity metrics. Track the metrics that truly impact your business. It’s important to monitor conversion points like sign ups, purchases, and feature usage that retains users.

Instead of making assumptions from data, ask users directly. Understand why they downloaded your app and the specific problems they wanted to solve when they started using it.
