The idea of lifetime deals (LTDs) keeps coming up in marketing meetings. It just feels like signing up for infinite future support costs.

Our team keeps pushing LTDs as a quick revenue boost but I keep thinking about the math.

Every customer we get today becomes a cost center that never pays again. Server costs, support tickets, feature updates - all on us forever.

Maybe I’m overthinking this but it feels backwards.

Price LTDs carefully. Assess 3-5 years of costs for servers, support, and other expenses. Companies often use LTDs to gauge demand for new features or fund larger projects. Avoid seeking quick cash without a clear understanding of your expenses. It can lead to long-term issues.

Tried that once. Costs just keep adding up.
