Been testing this for three months now. Free users see the button but get a paywall when they click.
Conversion rate from that specific flow is sitting around 12%. Way higher than our usual upgrade prompts.
Anyone else gating feature requests behind paid plans?
We did something similar but went further. Built a voting system - paid users get 10 votes monthly, free users get 1.
The psychology’s crazy. People can’t stand seeing great feature ideas stuck with just a few votes. They’ll upgrade just to boost their favorites.
Started as an experiment, now drives 8% of our conversions. Key was making votes feel valuable instead of just another paywall.
Gating works, but don’t overdo it. Too much friction kills user experience and drives people away.
Gating works well. Users need motivation to pay.
Makes total sense. People asking for features are already invested. I do something similar with support. Free users can reach out, but paid users get faster responses and can talk directly to developers. What kind of features do you usually get requests for?
