We're a US company but have a lot of EU users. The VAT/sales tax compliance is a looming nightmare. Are you using a service to handle this?

With our increasing EU user base, tax compliance is becoming more complicated. Dealing with various VAT rates and rules is overwhelming.

I’m exploring options like Paddle or Quaderno but curious about what others have had success with.

Quaderno worked fine for us. Setup took a few days but worth it.

Had this exact problem 18 months ago when we hit the EU threshold.

Tried doing it ourselves first - huge mistake. Spent days every quarter just on reporting.

Ended up with Quaderno and it’s been great. API integration was easy and they file everything automatically. Costs about 2% but saves tons of time.

Just make sure whatever you choose works with subscription billing if you need it. Some services struggle with recurring payments across VAT zones.

We use Paddle too. It simplifies things a lot and getting started was quick.

Use a service and save yourself the hassle

Don’t wait until you hit the thresholds. EU tax authorities can backdate penalties if you mess up the timing. I’d go with Paddle over Quaderno for apps. They act as merchant of record so you’re completely out of the tax loop. Quaderno still requires you to be the seller, which means more compliance work. Paddle takes a bigger cut but handles everything including payment processing. Worth it for the peace of mind.
