what are your best good survey questions for capturing real user feedback

Been struggling to get actionable feedback from our users. Our current surveys feel superficial.

Looking for questions that really dig into user pain points and desires. What’s worked well for you?

Curious about both quantitative and qualitative approaches.

Questions that work well for me:

‘What’s the most frustrating part of using our app?’ Gets right to the pain points.

‘How does our app fit into your daily routine?’ Shows real usage patterns.

‘What would make you recommend us to others?’ Reveals what users truly value.

Keep surveys short, maybe 3-5 questions max. Long ones kill completion rates.

I’ve found open-ended questions get the most useful insights. My go-to is ‘What’s the biggest challenge you face when using our app?’

It reveals pain points we didn’t even know existed. We’ve uncovered UI issues, missing features, and even pricing concerns this way.

For quant data, the classic NPS question is still solid. But I pair it with ‘What’s the main reason for your score?’ That context is gold.

Another winner: ‘If you could change one thing about our app, what would it be?’ Users often suggest improvements we hadn’t considered.

Last tip - always leave a comment box at the end. Some of our best ideas came from those freeform responses.

Try asking what feature they’d pay extra for. Shows what they really value. Or ask what made them almost delete the app. That’s eye-opening.

Focus on questions that reveal user behavior and decision points. Ask ‘What task were you trying to accomplish when you last opened our app?’ This shows real use cases.

‘What alternative solutions did you try before us?’ exposes competitors and unmet needs.

‘Where does our app fall short compared to other tools you use?’ pinpoints gaps.

For quant, use ‘How often do you use feature X?’ with frequency options. Tells you what actually gets used.

Avoid leading questions or generic satisfaction ratings. Get specific about their workflow and pain points. That’s where the valuable insights hide.

Ask what annoyed them most. People love to complain.
