Been struggling with getting meaningful test results on our app that only gets about 2k daily users.
Most tools seem built for high-traffic products. Need something that can actually tell me if my conversion lift is real or just noise with smaller sample sizes.
Split.io has been solid for us on lower traffic apps. Their CUPED variance reduction actually helps squeeze significance out of smaller samples faster.
Ran a pricing test last month on an app doing ~1.8k daily actives. Got statistical significance in 3 weeks instead of the usual 6-8 weeks with other tools.
One thing though - you still need to be testing meaningful changes. A 2% lift won’t show up clearly even with better stats. Go for changes that could realistically move conversion 15%+ and you’ll see results.
Google Optimize is free and works fine with 2k users.
Optimizely can handle lower traffic too. Just run tests longer and focus on major changes instead of small tweaks.
Statsig is your best bet. Their sequential testing makes sample size guessing unnecessary, and they indicate when you have enough data for a decision. With 2k daily users, expect 2-3 weeks for meaningful results. The main issue is often the scale of changes; many tests are too minor to detect with your traffic. Focus on significant shifts like new onboarding flows or major UI overhauls. Anything under 20% impact will take a long time to validate.
VWO works well for smaller traffic apps because it uses sequential testing instead of requiring fixed sample sizes upfront.
I have run tests on apps with similar daily users and got reliable results in reasonable timeframes. The key is testing bigger changes that actually move the needle rather than tiny tweaks.
