Been running user surveys for months but getting pretty surface-level responses.
Most answers feel predictable or don’t really explain why users behave the way they do.
What questions have you found that actually get people to open up about their real motivations?
What would happen if you stopped using this tomorrow? works great for me.
People start with surface-level answers but then reveal why they actually stick around. You’ll quickly see if users genuinely need your app or just feel like they should use it.
I’ve found tons of cases where people kept apps installed but never touched them - turns out there’s zero consequence to quitting.
Ask why they picked your app. You’ll get the real reasons.
What almost made you quit using this? This question hits different - it gets people talking about stuff they’ve forgotten bugged them. Most users just adapt to problems instead of speaking up. But ask this and they’ll remember that exact moment they almost said screw it. You’ll find usability issues your analytics totally miss and figure out what actually keeps people from bailing when things break.
What did you expect when you first signed up?
This question nails the gap between what you promised and what users actually got. People get super specific about how they thought it’d work versus reality.
I’ve used this on three different apps and it always reveals messaging issues. Users say things like “thought I’d get daily workouts but it’s just a tracker” or “expected instant results but turns out I have to log everything first.”
Shows you exactly where your onboarding sucks or your ads oversell.
Ask what they were doing right before opening your app. Usually reveals the real trigger.
